Have you ever thought writing your own copy of the Scriptures? Have you ever thought being an “scribe” (in the good sense)? Do you love Bible journaling? Do you have a love for paper? This book is worthy of your consideration! This book is right for you!
My father has handwritten four copies of the entire Bible! He is still now on his fifth copy: one for each child. He has written them on notebook sheets and then he sent them to be wired. Oh if he had known this fantastic series of books…!
Reformation Heritage Books, Rob Wynalda and Fullquiver have became real a beautiful idea: writing your own copy of the Holy Scriptures. Certainly, there is a Scriptural reason: Deut 17:18, which gives name to this serie.
Now it shall come about when he sits on the throne of his kingdom, he shall write for himself a copy of this law on a scroll in the presence of the Levitical priests. It shall be with him and he shall read it all the days of his life, that he may learn to fear the Lord his God, by carefully observing all the words of this law and these statutes, that his heart may not be lifted up above his countrymen and that he may not turn aside from the commandment, to the right or the left, so that he and his sons may continue long in his kingdom in the midst of Israel.
But there are some other reasons to be considered as beneficial to all who begin and enjoy this adventure:
1. Educational reason: You learn better as you write. You retain more information as you write than if you simply read.
2. Engagement reason: We live in a high-speed society, we like small pieces of information, we prefer fast food instead of home made food, and this applies to holy things. But we need to reduce, even to stop, our speed and delight on the pleasure of enjoying a book, handwriting, drawing, painting… Slow down. And even more, taking time to think. In these books, you will find room for writing the Holy Scriptures, but also your own thoughts. The designer has left the left-hand pages to write your own thoughts, notes, reflections, comments, pictures, graphics… This can be called interacting with the text or engaging the text. “Be doers and not merely hearers…”
3. Experiential reason: As you experience the blessing of being engaged with the Holy Scriptures, and writing your own thoughts, you are leaving a lasting legacy to your next generation of children, grandchildren… following the example of Timothy’s family: 2 Tim. 1.5; 3.14, 15
The editors say that when you “journible”, you:
Retain more of God’s Word
Improve your Bible study
Leave a legacy for your children.
Regarding the book design, you will find:
90 GSM Ivory paper. Opaque enough!
Lined pages to help handwriting.
Aids to answer some questions about the text.
Chapter and set of verses contained on the page.
Moleskin size notebook.
A beautiful book that will record the Holy Writings for you and for generations to come.
Reformation Heritage Books provided this volume free for review. I was not required to give a positive review, but only an honest one. My opinions are exclusively my own.
